About Face
2010-2012
As part of a long standing exercise in perception, ‘About Face” is a series of product bottle photographs, depicted in such a way that they (the ‘original’ bottles) are less important than, or incomparable to, the experience of their image. The subject, what we know about the bottles (what they ‘are’), the role of the products inside the bottles, to grease or degrease, is subordinated to the more fundamental authority of color and form. By selecting a point of view, by concealing a facet or element of the subject, we have an opportunity to reassign value and therefore step up as co-author of the image and its subject.
